Zip lines, lianas, nets and Tibetan floating bridges - words that evoked, till recently, sport and adventure far away from the asphalt of a busy city. But, would you believe it, lovers of height and adrenalin have now in their disposition a very unique forest to test out their vertigo, balance and agility without necessity to get out of the city. Instead of thickly leafy trees, the intrepid climbers can now find challenging columns of higher than 10 metres right in the middle of Barcelona city.
The Bosc Urba is the first Park with zip lines and lianas; 3 circuits, suspended in the air in the Square of the Forum, in fact since last year but, strangely, I never paid much heed to it until I saw a photo of it today and I thought, since I write all sorts of things about Barcelona, for many years my adopted city, I should include this not too common aspect in most other cities. It's the kind of sport-adventure-entertainment park anyone can use and enjoy, the only requirement is one's dare-devil spirit and €11 to €27 entrance fee. It's open only in summer months.
The most popular and star installation is a Zip-Line of 120 metre length, also the cheapest (photo below, €11). The 3 circuits are so divided according to different levels of difficulty, designed as much for children, families as for more trained sportsmen. Security measures are the main key tightly observed by guards, technicians and ranges of monitors. The basic principle is simple; users should always follow the so-called lifeline and have one of the two snap link held tight.
Some people go several times and there was a youngster's birthday celebration held there yesterday in the air, together with 12 college friends. Children don't have fear or vertigo, the child's mother says. I don't have fear of height at all, but I won't go specially up the Zip-Line for sport or fun.
