7th May 2012 Ladies' Luncheon

May 07B
A group of girlfriends, all aged 40, discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waiters there were handsome, with tight pants and nice bums.

Ten years later, at age 50, the friends once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food was good and the wine selection was excellent.

Ten years later, at age 70, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had an elevator.

7th May 2012 How A Medal Honoured Dog Hug A Baby

May 07A
The K9 above is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord ... He's huge, part Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His handler took the picture.K9-1
Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some Milkbone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did.

Brutus was the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honour last year from his tour in Iraq. His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicated by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but come back and find me'.

The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (the guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened. He went in and untied his handler and they all escaped.
He's the first K9 to receive this honour. If he knows you're OK, he's a big old lug and wants to sit on your lap. He enjoys too the company of cats. K-9 Congressional Medal of Honour Winner thought you'd find this interesting.

Talk about animal intelligence and bonding with humans! Remember that they can't do a lot of things for themselves and they depend on you to make their life a quality life!

Instructions for properly hugging a baby (from a dog's point of view):
1. First, uh, find a baby K9-2

2. Second, be sure that the object you found was indeed a baby, by employing classic sniffing K9-3
+Techniques:

3. Next, you will need to flatten the baby before actually beginning the hugging process.K9-4

4. The 'paw slide' = Simply slide paws around baby ...
and prepare for possible close-up.K9-5

5. Finally, if a camera is present, you will need to execute the difficult and patented 'hug, smile, and lean' so
as to achieve the best photo quality.

K9-6
My view: It will be a shame if you don't pass this along!!

Blessed are those who give without remembering
And take without forgetting.

7th May 2012 The Couple On Bus A2

May 07
It's very rarely indeed that I take a bus ride, almost bordering to near never. But I did this morning, through necessity. It was a fairly short ride, but long enough to witness something I bet no one else on the bus had noticed or, if they did, wouldn't have meant a thing. To me though, it's something I find comforting and heart warming.

Sitting in front of me but on the other side of the aisle was an old couple. He must be at least 90 and she perhaps 2 or 3 years less. He started quoting a phrase of Schopenhauer: 'The fly should be taken as a symbol of audacity because, while other animals run from man, the fly gets close to him landing right on his nose.' The woman looked at him sideways, closed her eyes a minute or so as if digesting what the old man had just said.

Almost another minute passed before she half turned to him and replied: 'Did you know that those statues of lions that guard the Library of New York are called Bravery and Patience, because the New-Yorkers think these are the 2 qualities they need to survive the crisis and the Great Depression?'

Now the man closed his eyes as if he too was digesting the words she said. Neither said anything after that. They got off the bus together; she helping to steady him down the steps and he caressed the back of her neck.

I never saw them again, but I was fascinated, as I always do, by the very special and close bond between some people who have found such deep love in few words, in silence, or simply in the way they look at each other. Sometimes words are unnecessary. It's a love story told with feelings and sentiments. It made my day.
