21st Aug 2011 Picture News Of Chinese - Floating Hotel & Kites

Aug 21B

The fame most sought by most people in recently years seem to be the biggest, tallest, longest, shortest, fastest, fattest, ugliest ... or anything at all as long as you can describe it with these 3 letters 'est' at the end. Sense and merit don't matter.

They have just launched, in the sky of Nanjing, China, the longest string of kites, 400 metre long!!! To think that when I was a little girl, my father taught me fly a kite, a tiny little paper butterfly, and I got it up but couldn't get it to stay up longer than a few minutes! It seems everything is possible in China these days; everyday they surprise the world with something new or incredible.

Chinese Kites

The floating hotel is in China too. The 'Kiev', part of the float of military aircraft carriers of the ancient Soviet Union, sold to a Chinese company and converted into a floating hotel. 6,000 square metres and every metre spells ultra-luxury.

I don't mean the surgery that promises adding inches to your stature, but a small tourist trap set for those who are quite happy to pay for a panoramic view and beyond, of the city where they are visiting. One such is on the roof of the antique building of the Bull ring, 27 metre structure, accessed by 2 lifts. Just a very teeny weeny, insignificant € will take you right up there in 30 seconds.

What is one €? Nothing at all, not even enough to buy a small cup of black coffee. Besides, children under 12, people over 65, or any age with impaired mobility, are gratis. And, if you eat in one of the restaurants up top, the € is deducted from the bill. See, the payment doesn't seem like a trap.

Nevertheless, of the countless people going up and down there everyday, winter and summer, all are foreign tourists, never a Spaniards. Not that they couldn't care less about the magnificent view from up there, nor they care too much spending a Euro. Just that they can go up there totally free. They are not misers, just clever and more practical than the tourists, who, when reaching the top, will discover with great surprise that there are magnificent 2-way automatic escalators leading from and to the city's commercial centre, totally free, running day and night! Too late; they already paid. One € is dirt cheap anyway, compared with other viewpoints elsewhere and in the world.

The Colon - 60 metres. €4
Eiffel Tower - 1st floor 57 metres. €4.50. The 3rd & last 276 metres. €11.50
The Statue of Liberty, 97 metres. $12 (€8.40)
Empire Building NY, 381 metres. $20 (€14)
Burjkhalifa of Dubai, 828 metres. the tallest in the world, going to the 124th floor which is at 450 metres. €100 Arabic (€19) if reserved beforehand, or 4 times as much at the door.

So the €1 is in fact the cheapest, considering the 30 seconds would become 2 minutes if you walk.
