Naked Is Just Naked; Not Sexy

June 21C photo June21C_zps5f21e87a.jpg
In L'Hospitalet of LLobregat, Spain, an exhibition of Neo-Realism, photography during the period from 1932 - 1960, showing new images of the post war Italy, Together with 200 text documents telling the history illustrated with vivid and significant social scenes of a country, eager to construct their new identity. With works of renown authors and photographers, it constitutes the most complete record to date. The compilation of the photographs is not just visual, but collective voices freely or contradictorily expressed, through snatches of scenes and stories weaving the history of then, reflecting consequences of how the country is today.

One of them I show here, by Mario De Biasi in 1954, tells more than a story of how sex and sensuality has evolved in the comparatively short period of just half a century. A woman, fully covered with her very simply and definitely plain dress, most of her legs hidden under it, drew the attention of a huge gathering of men, of all ages, of different class and creed from the appearance of them, all riveted their total attention on this one woman. Admiration, desire, and voiceless compliments. A woman today would hardly get that kind of attention, however beautiful or sexy. Not even if she is stark naked. That would make her just another naked woman.

The woman's face is not shown. But no Matter; being attractive or ultra sexy often has little to do with if a woman is beautiful or not. Grace, elegance and sexiness are inborn mainly. These qualities can be cultivated, learned or imitated only to a small extend. I can't understand why so many women are so quick, ready and willing to take off every stitch they got on to be viewed as sexy. A real sexy and sensuous woman show these attributes naturally without trying.

To Heed & Ponder

June 21B photo June21B_zpsbaab3cc1.jpg
  • Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

  • Adversity draws men together and produces beauty and harmony in life's relationships, just as the cold of winter produces ice-flowers on the window-panes, which vanish with the warmth.

  • Most men pursue pleasure with such breathless haste that they hurry past it.

  • You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

  • Leadership at one time meant muscles; today it means getting along with people.

  • There is more to life than simply increasing its speed.

  • A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.

  • Interdependence is and ought to be as much the ideal of man as self-sufficiency. Man is a social being.

  • A 'No' uttered from deepest conviction is better and greater than a 'Yes' merely uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble.

  • Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

  • To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.

  • It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.

  • Fear has its use but cowardice has none.

The Sadism Of Fame

June 21A photo June21A_zpsbd75ad47.jpg
I had seen either a film or a TV programme, I don't remember which, called 'Fame', about a dance school where youngsters with aspiration of becoming professionals work long and painful hours training and practicing. On the Spanish TV 4 channel 'Fame' is more of a dance contest, where dancers, amateurs and semi-professional dancers, sweat out their claim with their body and foot work, hopeful for a future in television, maybe in the big screen too or even on the world stage.

The truth is another. With excuse of learning, training and exhibition, It's more like a Guantanamo of incipient dancers, submitted by nearly inhuman physical and psychological pressure in front of the cameras, for the entertainment and enjoyment of the television viewers. The fact that Channel 4 has succeeded winning 1.5 million TV spectators each day, more than other competing channels at the same time slot, is encouraging enough for this show to press on, with the same formula but even more severe and burning ardour.

The enthusiastic following of the public confirms the expected reaction, The dance teacher certainly seems to enjoy the pushing and twisting on limbs of the students, to such extreme that more resembles torture, but to which the students are willing to accept as the unavoidable procedure, necessary part of the road to success.

Putting on the screen an almighty authority, exercising his absolute power, over groups of young masochistic dancers hungry for fame, is a guaranteed winner, and satisfying audience's latent sadism. Television is often an ersatz or substitute of the human dark side, hidden or suppressed, but exists.

Mother Knows Best

** Mother knows best
Benny is almost 32 years old. All his friends are now married but Benny just dates and dates. Finally his friend asks him, "What's the matter, Benny? Are you looking for the perfect woman? Are you really that fussy? Surely you can find someone who suits you?"

"No I just can’t," Benny replies. "I meet many nice girls, but as soon as I bring them home to meet my parents, my mother doesn't like them. So I keep on looking!"
"Listen," his friend suggests, "why don't you find a girl who's just like your mother?"

Many weeks go by and again Benny and his friend get together.
"So, have you found the perfect girl yet? One that's just like your mother?"
Benny shrugs his shoulders, "Yes, I found one just like mum. Mum loved her right from the start and they have become good friends."

"So, are you and this girl engaged yet?"
"I'm afraid not. My father can't stand her!"

** That’s the way to do it

One day, three men were hiking and unexpectedly came upon a large raging, violent river. They needed to get to the other side, but had no idea of how to do so.

The first man prayed to God, saying, "Please God, give me the strength to cross this river." Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs, and he was able to swim across the river in about two hours, but only after almost drowning a couple of times.

Seeing this, the second man prayed to God, saying, "Please God, give me the strength ... and the tools to cross this river." Poof! God gave him a rowboat and he was able to row across the river in about an hour, but only after almost capsizing the boat a couple of times.

The third man had seen how this worked out for the other two, so he also prayed to God saying, "Please God, give me the strength and the tools...and the intelligence... to cross this river." And poof! God turned him into a woman. She looked at the map, hiked upstream a couple of hundred yards, then walked across the bridge
