13th June 2012 Reminiscing HK, My Favourite City

June 13A
I found this photo taken in 2005 during one of the 3 trips I made to Hong Kong within a period of 11 months, after years of absence. The location was a beautiful park in Shatin, where the largest horse race course is. A couple dozen painted horses dotted here & there in the park, each & every one different in colour & art design & all showed the varied stance of a horse in action. Brilliant!

The first trip I stayed there for nearly 6 weeks. Making up for lost opportunities after so many years away, I ate out every single day, 2 or 3 times, mainly the Chinese food I am so crazy about. A few times I sampled also the international cuisine which, amazingly, the chefs there always seem to make better than where the food was originated. The French food better than that in France, the Italian better than that in Italy, etc. I guess it's because of the fierce competition in HK. With more restaurants than any other country in the world, square mile for square mile, resulting in hardly any streets without at least a few restaurants; they all need to be very good, many exceptionally so, to survive. Even the worst ones by HK standards are above average compared with the same category in other countries. The only way to compete & to keep clients returning. The choices are enormous. For me, pure Heaven!

Based in HK, I made several side trips to Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou & Macao, the world known casino state, a bit like a mini sized Las Vegas, where there are nearly as many casinos as shops. I never gamble, there or anywhere else, but I like observing all the human emotions displayed there. Winners & losers, the timid & the impulsive, the cautious & the hard necks, the hopeful & the desesperados, leaving with nothing but the shirts on their backs, some even minus their car keys, Rolex watches even wedding rings!!

I have been to Las Vegas several times too staying in casino hotels, incredibly reasonable prices for the ultimate luxury they offered, in their restaurants also, to attract customers with the conviction that most of them would end up at least for a couple of hours at the casino tables.

I did too, only for 5 minutes though, and won! But that's another story.

June 13
David Cameron ~
The man England entrusted with the country's most important decisions and affairs had forgotten about his 8 year old daughter Nancy left in the pub in Calsden (south-east of England), where the little girl had helped the staff with their chores until the Prime Minister returned to fetched her when he remembered only after he arrived home!

The Beatles - Homeless ~
'Beatlemania', the Beatles Museum, a 5 floored building in Hamburg, Germany, where The Beatles had performed in the beginning of the 60's It houses more than one thousand objects related to the famous band. but will be closing their doors for good at the end of this month, for lack of interest having had merely 150,000 visitors since they opened in 2009.

Who would have thought? Most tend to think that the Beatles' fame, and people's interest in them, would last forever.

Michael Jackson - The Immortal World Tour ~
That's the name of the show which the Estate of Michael Jackson, together with the world famous Cirque du Soleil , announced yesterday that the show will open on the days 17, 18, 19 & 20, in April of 2013, in the Palau Sant Jordi of Barcelona.

The spectacle will include 64 Musicians, dancers and acorbats from all over the world.

Lady Gaga - Gaga-Caidas (Falling Gaga) ~
This lady has been crowned by the Spanish media as 'Queen of Accidents', and suggested she should always wear helmets.

Apart from her shocking appearances on or off stage & outrageous costumes, she is definitely accident prone, having had countless falls on the stage, in the streets, at airports, in restaurants, and as many other little accidents, almost as many as the number of her successes. Most of these falls were caused by her one foot high platformed shoes or 9 inch stiletto pin-heels, and often by her impossible costume impossible for natural body movement garments. Would she ever learn? Of course not. How else can she get into the media being seen and talked about everyday?

The photos below show her latest accident on stage in New Zealand: an iron bar fell on her head! The curious thing is, instead of sympathy, she apparently got a lot of laughs once it was clear that she was not seriously injured.
