3rd June 2012 Friendship Or Love - Video

An endearing story of friendship and (not 'or') love ...

3rd June 2012 From Croatia With Love - And Other Thoughts

** Each Day, Each Hour ~

Natasa Dragnic, from Croatia, debut with her novel 'Each Day, Each Hour' which, even before it was published, had been purchased by 28 countries. The reason? Love. This writer from Croatia but lives in Germany, tells the story in this book of 2 adolescents of a small fishing village in Croatia, now grown up, and re-encountered in Paris, discovering that their young love has continued beating in their hearts with the same intensity. A story which reaffirms that true love never dies despite distance; also that destiny is drawn by our own hands.

When questioned what is love, the author says it's life itself. New born babies die if they don't receive love, and people with a pending relationship always find a way to find each other again to tie up loose ends. This last comment has been turning in my mind much of today, also that of destiny being drawn by our own hands. I am earnestly hoping both were true and possible.

** Harry Connick Jr. in concert ~

I have always liked his songs and the way he sings other people's songs, but have never been to any of his concerts until today, when I saw the full 2 & half hour full recording, of his concert in Broadway, in the Neil Simon Theatre.

This multiple Grammy and Emmy winning singer and song writer included classics like 'The way you look tonight' and 'Besame mucho', plays the piano magnificently, and very surprising to me, also a fantastic dancer of various types and discipline, including Tap, besides being a real showman on stage. Several accompanying musicians gave very impressive performances individually as well and all in all, a real entertaining show. My day today is so much brighter and happier for it.

** A twist of an old saying ~

I don't remember where or from whom I heard it, but when a friend mentioned the phrase: 'Two is company ...' and before he could finish, I said 'Three is a sandwich'. (I didn't invent this, it just suddenly popped up in my head and out of my mouth. I must have heard it from I don't remember whom or where.

Anyway, my friend had a good laugh and I am still trying to think where did that come from.

His father explains, 'For that Jack, you have to have a boy and a girl.'

So Jack answers, 'I've already found a girl.'
'Who?' splutters his Dad.

'Grandma,' continues Jack happily.
'Now, let me get this straight,' his father says. 'You want to marry my mother? ... You can't do that.'

'I don't see why not?' Jack responds, 'You married mine!'

** How To Have A Happy Marriage ...
'The thrill, the excitement is gone from my marriage,' George complains to his mate, Tony.
'Why not add some intrigue to your life and have an affair?' suggests Tony naughtily.

'But what if my wife finds out?' frowns George.
'Lummee, George,' explains Tony, 'this is the 21st century we live in, mate. Go ahead and tell her about it.'

So George returns home and says, 'Poppet, I think an affair will bring us closer together.'
'Forget it,' replies his wife. 'I've tried that - it didn't work.'

3rd June 2012 Autumn Love

June 03A
On my way to the cafe each morning, I usually have my eyes on the beach on the other side of the road, as the scene is prettier. The side where I was walking was the pavement opposite where cafes, restaurants and shops are. Even though the beach is the same, but the scene changes, always looks a little different each day. As the sea is live so is whatever on and around it.

But this morning my attention was caught by an old couple sitting on one of the benches by the pavement when I was still quite some yards away. I couldn't help but slow down my pace so that I could see more of them and watch longer. I couldn't stop to look and the distance was too short before I had to pass them completely. Nosy? Not at all. I was, how should I put it, captivated.

They looked like foreigners. What I meant was they didn't look Spanish. I guess both must be in their early or possibly mid 80's, well and warmly dressed, might be sitting there for a rest after a walk. Not waiting for friends as in that case they would or should more likely be in one of the many cafes along there, practically door to door. It was also possible I supposed that they were waiting for some family members to come and pick them up by car.

I was so captured at first by the way they looked at each other, a half smile on both their faces . Even their eyes seemed smiling. Then he held a handkerchief in one hand, with the other he gently turned her face a bit more towards him, so that he could give the corner of her mouth a little wipe, stopped, looked at her , then a big smile that seemed to say " There, it (whatever it was) is gone. " He put the handkerchief away to free his hand, which then caught hers, and they turned to look at each other again, simultaneously let spread a detaining smile on their wrinkled faces. As far as I could tell, all that time not a single word had been exchanged. They didn't need words!

I couldn't have walked any slower to watch more without drawing a lot of weird looks from other passers-by, although I had a very strong desire to. I passed them half hoping I could give them a smile too, but they only had eyes for each other. I went on happily, replaying the endearing picture over in my mind.

That scene touched my heart profoundly. The love, the caring and mutual understanding, the happiness they shared knowing that very special love, experiencing it, in the smallest minute doses in their daily routines, in the most casual moments. Every little gesture was an act of pure love and devotion to each other, accumulated, grown and deepened over a life time.
