Mind Over Matter

Nov 06A
Would you like to play a little mind game with me? I will tell you what you are supposed to do, you can just chuck it out of your mind or, if you wish to try it and did, would you let me know whether you agree with my theory, please?

Imagine now there's a table in front of you, scattered over the top are some normal, ordinary objects that one is likely to see on a table, like say, some paper, a couple of ballpoint pens, some file clips, a box of matches, a coffee cup, a book, some files, rubber bands, and a few loose coins. Now, close your eyes, try to forget the box of matches, Concentrate on forgetting that and tell me what else are there on the table, and name them in that same order. You can go over the whole lot twice first. Don't forget to leave out the matches. Now, go ...

My theory is that, because you are asked repeatedly to leave out the matches, to forget them, they would be the object that stick to your mind most. It would be the matches that engraved in your brain while you are concentrating hard to leave it out. The box would appear in front of your eyes, huge and brilliant, occupying the whole field of your vision.

Being prohibited to do something is almost like an invitation to do so. Remember the things your parents or teachers told you repeatedly not to do? Haven't you done them anyway? Be truthful now, bet you have done at least some of them.

I find that trying hard to wipe out a memory often strengthens it's position in your head and your heart. It becomes almost like an obsession. To forget a person who has gone out of your life, or words that had hurt you once, would return over and over. Words are specially hard to forget, they got ingrained into your memory like cement. Worse are the words you yourself had said to someone and wished with all your heart that you hadn't. The more you try to forget the more often they pop up out of a blue.

I forget a lot of things I shouldn't have, and remember those I have been desperately trying to forget ... What I really want to know is, can anyone tell me what can I do to rid me of the undesirable but indelible?

Cat & Mice

Nov 06x
A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, "You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking."

The cat thought for a minute and then said, "All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on."
God said, "Say no more." Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow.
A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that He made to the cat
The mice said, "Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs, and even people with brooms! If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again."
God answered, "It is done." All the mice had beautiful little roller skates.
About a week later, God decided to check on the cat. He found her sound asleep on her fluffy pillow. God gently awakened the cat and asked, "Is everything okay? How have you been doing? Are you happy?"
The cat replied, "Oh, it is WONDERFUL. I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and those little Meals on Wheels you have been sending over are delicious!"
