6th Jan 2012 A Book In 4 Minutes

Jan 06B
It certainly is an amazing world where the impossible is possible, and the unbelievable materializes in front of your eyes in 4 minutes; in this case a full size Book printed while you wait, after you pay the price. The editor is called Brutas, with the funny logo of a set of smiling dental prosthesis. The only inconvenience is, that it's in New York. Unless of course you are a New Yorker.

A Spanish journalist experienced this on the 8th of December, with this high technology, including the Apollo Xlll, while the machine was functioning, people are waiting in a queue as if buying a loaf of bread. In exactly 4 minutes a book previously paid for Is ready. Two variants combined in this operation: the atavism to see how this skilled craft is produced, and the modernity of it being a book.

The books of Brutas Editors only exist on demand. You can solicit yours at:

Happy Reading.

6th Jan 2012 The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen

It occurred to me that I seem to be watching more old films than new ones, Well the one I just saw and going to write about is not that old, of 2003; but nowadays anything more than a few months existence is thought of as old, and any longer than that is likely to be classified as obsolete, especially in technological inventions and terms. With my rebellious nature, I often prefer real old films, including some silent ones.

Back to the film 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', directed by Steven Norrington, starred Sean Connery, Shane West & Peta Wilson. Unlike most people women specially, I don't much like Sean Connery, and the other 2 are almost stranger to me, at least their names are, but I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed the film.

It's an adaptation of the comic written by Alen Moore, in which united characters of classic literature of adventures and fantasies. Like Captain Nemo, The invisible man, Jekyll & Hyde, Draula, and the veteran hunter Allen Quatemain, of the Mines of King Salomon. To all which also added the cinematic version of Tom Sawyer and Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Impressive gathering huh? And extremely well put together.

Norrington converted in one spectacular piece of entertainment what in the comic stripes was a reflection on popular classic literature, into intriguing incidences but the result is still valid as is the aesthetic configuration, and the atmosphere of the Victorian era. There are diabolic scenes of the villains with their abhorrent doings each in turn and sequences fluctuating between adventure and Gothic fantasies. Pure Entertainment in somewhat weird sense.

  • Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
  • You know your children are growing up when they stop asking you where they came from and refuse to tell you where they're going.
  • Children in the dark make accidents, but accidents in the dark make children.
  • Girls are like roads, more the curves, more the dangerous they are.
  • By the time a girl realises that her mother was right, she has a daughter who thinks she's wrong.
  • To err is human, to blame it on somebody else shows management potential.
  • Money talks...but all mine ever says is good-bye.
  • By the time you learn the rules of life, you're too old to play the game.
  • There are 3 kinds of people: the ones who learn by reading. The ones who learn by observation. And the rest of them have to touch the fire to learn it's hot.
  • Dogs have masters. Cats have staff, some even have slaves.
  • It is hard to understand how a cemetery raised its burial cost and blamed it on the cost of living.
