The
name is Helena, or Christian, or Raul. Their bodies minute and fragile,
struggling to survive trussed with tubes and cables, wrapped in the
warm breaths of their parents trying desperately to breathe life into
them for having left the uterus of the mother too soon. They are very
under-mature babies, tiny creatures already having to learn the hard
lesson of life every single second with every beat of their heart.
For
those who resisted beyond the bubble of the new born infant unit, need
to continue to fight for their life and future. Their debility and
feebleness turned into strength. As imbued by the philosophy of the
humble fighters. The doctors of the Hospital Vall d'Hebron in Spain
have presented their newly invented 'Ring of Life', as baptised by the
media these last couple of days, simply a hoop some might call it made
with silicone which, inserted into the mother's womb, impede many
pre-mature births. Added to this triumph of new found life saver, these
are made by handicapped people of a Foundation directed and supervised
by Doctor Birgit Arabin, and it cost just 38€.
In
the midst of ecstasy of high technology, exhibitionistic blustering
& bragging, the simplicity of this ring and it's impressive results,
reminds us the radical heroism and value, very often in very simple
solutions and attitudes.
A
great lesson also for the pharmaceutical sector which does not always
offer the most suitable answers making us captives of their benefits.
Today,
those future Helena, Christian or Raul can smile in their cradles,
their parents too can sleep peacefully dreaming a happy future with
their little ones.
