1st May 2012 Highland Games Of Scotland

May 01A
While writing earlier on today about Prince Alejandro throwing a toilet bowl, during the celebration yesterday as part of the festival activities on the Day of the Queen in Holland, I was also remembering the several times I attended the Highland Games in Crieff, Scotland. As I had forgotten the official name for the throwing of the Caber, (a long wooden pole, similar to a telephone pole or an unrefined trimmed tree trunk) raised at one end and thrown as a test of strength in Scottish Highland sport, I email someone I know well there for the information.

In his prompt reply, he corrected me the term I used; 'throwing', as incorrect; it's called 'tossing the caber'. It's not thrown for distance, but is tossed so that it lands end over end. The nearest throw to a position of 12 O'clock, after it lands, is the winner.

He enclosed a link of their website : http://www.crieffhighlandgathering.com
I find the games quite interesting. I thought maybe some of you will too.

Bet very few people have, for fun or spot, throw a toilet to see how fast and far they can get it to land on the ground. I guess many of us do occasionally, through extreme anger or sheer frustration, throw something against the wall, down the floor, or even at someone; a book, a plate, a vast, a pillow ... surely it won't occurred to anyone to throw a toilet bowl. The Royal Prince Alejandro of Holland did, yesterday, the Day of the Queen, a national festival in Holland.

Sadly, this year without the presence of Prince Friso who most likely has to spend the rest of his life in coma, after the accident in February when he was buried in a sudden avalanche of snow. The royal family had decided to celebrate the tradition forgetting just for one day the very painful tragedy.

The photo below shows Prince Alejandro throwing the toilet bowl with almost elegant athletic stance, while the Princesses Maxima and Annette participated in a race of crazy cars laughing themselves silly. Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister in his televised speech to the nation said that 'Today we are thinking specially of Prince Friso and his family ...' before he wished the Dutch subjects a happy and relaxing day.

The Day of the Queen is on the 30th of April, birthday of Queen Juliana, and the whole of Holland is tinted with the colour orange in all it's varied adornments, even the toilet, the colour of the House of Orange.
