18th Mar 2012 Trying To Be Wise On A Sunday

  • Man's commonest fault is not knowing what he doesn't know.
  • Realize that if you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it.
  • Idleness is the stupidity of the body, and stupidity is the idleness of the mind.
  • Only mediocrity can be trusted to be always at its best.
  • Goodness does not consist in greatness, but greatness in goodness.
  • All lies and jests, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.
  • Finally, a wise man's definition of 'bachelor of arts': One who makes love to a lot of women, yet has the art to remain a bachelor.
  • A sociologist: One who had got into an intellectual muddle early on in life and never managed to get out.
  • Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.- Henry Kissinger
  • Nothing ventured, nothing gained -- but if everything is ventured, and still nothing gained, give up and venture elsewhere.
  • The world turns aside to let any man pass who knows whither he is going.
  • To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing.
  • Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.
  • Dignity is a mask some wear to hide their ignorance.
  • Experience enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

A letter from America from Ireland ~

Dear Thomas,
Your father has a new job, with 2,000 people under him. He's a gardener at the local cemetery.

Since I last wrote I have had all my teeth out and a new cooker put in. I was going to send you a turkey but it got better.

I sent you a coat in the post. When the post office weighed it they said I'd have to pay extra for the buttons because they were so heavy. So I cut the buttons off. You'll find them in the top pocket.

We've had a threatening letter from the undertaker. Unless we pay the outstanding money for your grandma's funeral by Wednesday - up she comes.

I must close now. I would have enclosed some money, but I'd already sealed the envelope.

A team of council workers were drilling nearby and accidentally cut through the drains to the house. Since then there's been a terrible smell from your loving mother.

Siobhan.

18th Mar 2012 Boy Soldier, Armed & Ready To Kill

Mar 18
This very disturbing photo was published on the Spanish paper, reporting that this former soldier amongst others, boys and girls, recruited by groups of Congo, now by sheer luck, managed to stay alive and reinserted as a mechanic.
Boy Soldier
Wonderful news this. But I I can't help fixing my eyes on his expression, feinted bravery to cover his fear, the soft toy bear hung on his back silently claim his too soon snatched away childhood, and the '''Flipflaps' on his feet, which if & when in fatal danger he needed to run for his life with. Or they sure hindrance?

The photo is so very poignant, powerfully imposing, so ironic and so deeply tragic that made me shudder, to cry out 'Oh ... why, why, why such cruel loss of innocence and be forced fed with hatred and violence, instead of laughter and love. Girl soldiers were subjected to even worse fate, often turned into sexual slaves and, they would not have the luck even after the war like the boys, to somehow block out the nightmare past to restart a new life, as they are now even despised, rejected, and most were disowned by their families.

35,000 child soldiers have been liberated in recent years. Physically that is. Would their minds and memories be liberated from the indelible horrors, ever?
