8th Aug 2012 Food For Thought

Aug 08B
  • An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't.
  • Fear less, hope more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Hate less, love more; And all good things are yours. Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.
  • Well done is better than well said.
  • I can stand brute force, but brute reason is quite unbearable. There is something unfair about its use. It is hitting below the intellect.
  • A liberal is man who will give away everything he doesn't own.
  • We don't grow unless we take risks. Any successful company is riddled with failures.
  • A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.
  • I have long been of the opinion that if work were such a splendid thing the rich would have kept more of it for themselves.
  • The little that is completed, vanishes from the sight of one who looks forward to what is still to do.
  • The winds and waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators.
  • The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.
  • The test of a man's or woman's breeding is how they behave in a quarrel. Anybody can behave well when things are going smoothly.
  • The greatest pleasure I know, is to do a good action by stealth, and to have it found out by accident.
  • Have a good cry, wash out your heart. If you keep it inside it'll tear you apart. Sometimes you lose, but you're gonna win if you just hang on.
  • Mankind are animals that makes bargains, no other animal does this.
  • Jealousy is no more than feeling alone against smiling enemies.
  • Life is like an onion; you peel off one layer at a time and sometimes you weep.

Try Doing These Exercises At Your Computer...
When you are stiff and sore from sitting at your computer
for long periods, it's best if you vary your position and posture periodically. We know we shouldn't sit for too long without taking a break to stretch and move around, but we forget, and then pay for it at the end of the day.

In order to prevent chronic back & neck pain, here are several excellent stretches that are suggested to relieve the
stress.

Try one of these the next time your back and neck start
feeling tight.
(The reason I still have back & neck pain is simply because I didn't wear high-heels when I did these stretches ...!)

There, now don't you feel better?

God On Earth ~
A young woman brings home her fiancé to meet her parents. After dinner, her mother tells her father to find out about the young man. The father invites the fiancé to his study for a drink.

'So what are your plans?' the father asks the young man.
'I am a Torah scholar,' he replies.

'A Torah scholar. Hmmm,' the father says. 'admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in, as she's accustomed to?'
'I will study,' the young man replies, 'and God will provide for us.'

'And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she deserves?' asks the father.

'I will concentrate on my studies,' the young man replies, 'God will provide for us.'

'And children?' asks the father. 'How will you support the children?'

"Don't worry, sir, God will provide," replies the fiancé.
The conversation proceeds like this, and each time the father questions, the young idealist insists that God will provide.

Later, the mother asks, 'How did it go, darling?'
The father answers, 'He has no job and no plans, but the good news is, he thinks I'm God.'

The Would-be Doctor ~
Doctor Khan was giving a lecture to a group of medical students at the city hospital.

Pointing to the x-ray, he explained: "As you can see, this patient limps because his right fibula and tibia are radically arched."

The doctor looked up at the assembled students, and asked Sidney "Now what would you do in a case like this?"
Sidney piped up: "I suppose I would limp too."
