22nd May 2011 Another Weekend Film - Bestezuelas

May 22
Bestezuelas is the name of the film. No idea what the word used as title means, not able to find it in the dictionary, but I think it might be better to call it 'Dogs & Losers', that's what the story is about, and more people would understand than a word difficult to remember and some might not even be able to pronounce it.

In present day Spain, between the fixed races at the greyhound track, in a world of outsiders, stolen money, and losers learning to start again. Sort of a thriller Com drama, establishing a parallelism between the greyhound race where the dogs chase a rabbit made of cloth-remnants, and individuals that also strive after false and unobtainable objectives or impossible aims. All that garnished with a love triangle.

It's rough and intense, with characters, born losers, who seek opportunities to lift them out of the hell hole. It incorporates Flamenco music that underlines what's happening in the way that the public is not the representation, but the represented. The theme is at least original. How often do you see films that have the greyhound race track as the main stage? The best, though risky, is strangely the murky atmosphere.

If you know what Bestezuelas means, would you please tell me?
