10th June 2011 El Bulli - The Film Is Being Stewed ...

June 10
Like the story of the Titanic achieving world fame, Hollywood producer Jeff Kleeman declared yesterday that his film about 'El Bulli', 5 times officially selected as the world's best restaurant, would be the same. He used this comparison to explain the dimensions the film he is preparing about Ferran Adria, the most celebrated chef and owner of the restaurant. Although he didn't mention the estimated figure of the production cost, nor the cast of actors, the man of famous films like 'The hunt of the red October' and 'Star Trek 6' assured that it would be a super-production aimed at the general public and worldwide distribution. He and the script writer David Wilson have been saturated in the day to day comings and goings of the restaurant since the 31st of May.

Being a script writer, I find David Wilson's description witty: 'The film will be like a meal in El Bulli, there would be humour, passion, and romance.' It's not just about the restaurant and it's now world class celebrity chef Ferran Adria, but many other famous chefs who had collaborated in El Bulli and, most significantly, the many apprentices that have passed it learning the trade and the WHY of it's great success.

The film is inspired by the book 'Apprentices of sorcerers' by Lisa Abend, an American news correspondent, about people who entered as scholarship holders in El Bulli. The actor to play Adria has not yet been decided; Adria himself said he could see Johnny Depp as himself in the film, but Kleeman neither confirmed or denied it, saying that it's impossible to offer the roll to a star without a script in hand at the moment, but promised that it would be a very important star.

The film is to start shooting in the autumn of 2012 or spring of 2013. I am looking forward very much to seeing it. El Bulli is Roses where I live, just about 20+ minutes for me to get there. But I have only dined there twice, invited; it's far too expensive for my pocket.
