June 04A
  • Democracy does not guarantee equality of conditions -- it only guarantees equality of opportunity.
  • Work is the meat of life, pleasure the dessert.
  • Nothing is more unjust or capricious than public opinion.
  • You don't get harmony even when everybody sings the same note.
  • Neither should a ship rely on one small anchor, nor should life rest on a single hope.
  • It's better to be a lion for a day, than a sheep all your life.
  • The speed of the boss is the speed of the team.
  • All philosophy lies in two words, sustain and abstain.
  • That which seems the height of absurdity in one generation often becomes the height of wisdom in the next.
  • There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings.
  • Privacy is not something that I'm merely entitled to, it's an absolute prerequisite.
  • Man is a gaming animal. He must always be trying to get the better in something or other.
  • The real acid test of courage is to be just your honest self when everybody is trying to be like somebody else.
  • There is wickedness in the intention of wickedness, even though it be not perpetrated in the act.
  • Without culture, and the relative freedom it implies, society, even when perfect, is but a jungle. This is why any authentic creation is a gift to the future.
  • What mankind wants is not talent; it is purpose.
  • He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough.
