Each summer The Casino Castell of Peralada in Roses has a festival of all kinds of wonderful entertainment on stage in their very large and beautiful garden of this castle, just 20 minutes drive from my house. They are mostly musical performances, concerts, cabarets, mini operas, ballets and, always, with famous international stars, musicians, singers and other performing artists, and always in the open air under the stars in the luscious garden.
The one premièred there night before last was the 'Garden of Delights', inspired by the painting (below) of El Bosco, famous Dutch artist (1450-1518), which, in it's day, was considered sacrilegious, desecrating the holy, and which gave the title to the show. Directed by the very famous Spanish choreographer Blanca Li, who said she had all her life been fascinated by this painting, imaginative, mesmerising, sensual and suggestive. So was Li's interpretation. She fathomed the obsessions and fantasies of the human beings, bringing the painting to vivid and throbbing life.
The left side of the painting was dedicated to the creation of the world; the right centred on Hell, while the one in the centre was centred on carnal pleasures.
