On
the same day when United Europe proposed to a reform of their laws to
guarantee the privacy of Internet users, Google took a stride exactly to
the opposite direction. The Giant of the Net announced yesterday a
change of their politic regarding privacy, permitting tracking
the trails and preferences of their users in more than 60 of their web
sites, from their Search to Gmail to You Tube. The objective of the
company is to be able to exploit the findings for their publicity
clients, being able to offer the advertisers more exact information of
users' preferences and tastes, the key point of any successful
business.
Essentially,
what Google will do is to integrate all the information collected from
their different sites, be it when a user activates his Android phone,
enters the page of email, or keys in certain term on the Search.
According to Google, the changes will not apply until the 1st of march
and, till then, those who don't agree with the new policy re. security
of privacy, are invited to terminate their connection with the company.
In other words, take it or leave it.
The
only Google programmes not included in the new policy are: Google
Books, Google Wallet & Google Chrome, governed by contracts of
varied privacy different from the rest of the group. While many users
feel concerned about their interests being exploited commercially,
Google defends the changes as a positive step to improve and enrich the
experiences of the users.
For instance, if someone put forth the word Jaguar in the Search, Google will offer more references to define whether you are looking for info. about an animal or a car. I am quite certain that the user hardly gets too upset over the confusion of that, but what he does in his free time, or where he keeps the family treasure, or with whom he commits adultery ...
