14th Mar 2012 Why Do People Write? Why Do I?

Photobucket
I have been asked that question many times, by many people. Frankly I don't have an answer clear enough even to explain to myself. I suppose we, those who enjoy writing, write to show who we are, a soul, a spirit, a certain something intransferable. But, in my personal case anyway, I always fail in such a high aim, an unattainable purpose.

Scott Fitzgerald said: 'The whole of a life is a demolition'. To be honest, that definition is a bit deep for my understanding. But I understand perfectly well what Beckett said: 'No matter. Try again. Fail gain but fail better'. That's what I do.

People are always saying they do this and that trying to find themselves. To me, one's self is never found, but constructed by one's own self. If I keep putting down my thoughts, however trivial and about whatever, I might learn to recognise the person that I am, the direction I wish to go, and aims I would like to reach. If I fail, I would have enjoyed doing what I like doing along the way, and that can't be a bad thing, can it?
