22nd April 2012 Anniversary Everyday

April 22

A couple of friends were recently celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. The husband, during the toasting at the dinner table, said that to them, the celebration of their wedding is an everyday event, not just on that same day each year. What a wonderful toast!

Everyday is anniversary of some wonderful things that should be celebrated, and often are, by those to whom that day means something special. That same day my blessed friends celebrated their happy marriage for 40 years, is also the anniversary of the unforgettable film 'Cabaret', the most enjoyable, dark, sexy musical, entertaining and divinely decadent. To me it's definitely Liza Minnelli's best cinematic work, but I think it's Joel Grey's performance the most outstanding, impressive and unforgettable.
On the 9th of April, another great film of even bigger fame and success, with very serious true life content was the 50th anniversary of the film 'To kill a mocking bird', most elaborately celebrated in the United States. Not just the film, but the book too by Harper Lee who, in 2007 was consecrated by the then American president George Bush with the medal of Liberty. The film won Gregory Peck his only Oscar in his distinguished film career, Just by passing, his roll was first offered to Rock Hudson then Spencer Tracy, but neither wished or could accept it, probably for the implication of the then very controversial theme of racism.

Even most recently, on the 14th this month, was the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, the several versions & remakes, TV programmes, documentaries, stage plays, books, photo exhibitions, interviews of survivors, articles of critics, published opinions of the famous and the general public, and a dozen more etceteras.
Nearly everyday I can think of something I did on the same day some other year,or a couple of things I didn't do but wish I had. Two anniversary dates I will never ever forget, the death of my mother and the fatal accident of the man whose proposal I happily accepted on that very same fateful day when he died.
