I
posted a few pictures some time ago sent to me by a friend, showing an
old lady of at least 75 or so, wearing very heavy make-up and dressed
in technicolor mini skirted outfit, fishnet stockings and all,
apparently in some kind of fiesta, prancing about having a ball and
showing her knickers! I had no idea who that lady was, putting up her
pictures just for a bit of fun.
Now
there just appeared a biography of a famous stripper, of her time, the
50's, a very well known figure internationally, topping the other no
less popular star Betty Page. Her stage name was Tempest Storm, real
name Annie Blanche Banks. I strongly suspect that she might be the same
lady whose photos I published in Multiply's Erotic Art Group. If she
is not, I apologize for the confusion.
Anyway,
with or without her photos showing how she looks today, now in her
80's, she was decidedly a very colourful and interesting character. So
famous in her heyday as the most notorious stripper, she even collected
a great number of world class celebrities and politicians as her
lovers, amongst them Mickey Rooney, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole and the
then young Senator John Kennedy.
Even
when she was young and definitely internationally famous, she was not
exactly a beauty in the accepted sense, and rather short in stature.
But she had an air of Marilyn Monroe, had even been her neighbour; both
exuded sex appeal mixed with a touch of childlike innocence, very
comfortable in her own skin. Her best asset was that she knew how to
move her body, and for her era, extremely daring, completely void of
inhibitions.
If
you are interested in taking a look at her early performances, or
stories about her, I believe you can find her in a YouTube video, in
the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, and she had also recently featured
in the CNN report, where she said now in her 80's, she is still
enjoying good health and appearances occasionally on stage. What's more,
the audiences seemed delighted to see her. So, she thinks there's
absolutely no reason for her to even think of retiring. You can of
course, read her biography, with a suggestive title " The Girl Who's A
Vampire "!
What character, what spirit, and what a lady!
