Around The World In A Wheelchair

Alberto Casals is a local Spanish boy of 18. He is very intelligent, more than that, sage in it's true sense. His happy and gleaming eyes tell of someone who has achieved all that was predicted by epicures and the stoics together, also the cynics and the sceptics, the beggars, vagabonds and wanderers. He needs nothing.

He left his home in Esparreguera when he was 15, travelling for the past 4 years without a companion, and without as much as a Euro in his pocket. He had been to most parts of Europe, Asia and South America. Nothing ever perturbs him and everyone smiles at him because he always smiles at everybody. A captivating boy with a great and pure soul, he harbour nothing negative, only sense of peace, joy, fun and happiness. Just being by his side, talking to him, listening to him, or reading his book 'The world on wheels' makes you a better and happier person.

He had been in a wheelchair since he was eight years old, suffering from mononucleosis and leukaemia. The treatment saved his life but put him in the wheelchair for life. He says had he wanted to be a footballer ... he would have made it, as "There's nothing I can't to in a wheelchair." he said smiling.

In fact he was only 14 when he told his family he wanted to take off travelling. It was very hard for the parents to stand in his way of happiness so they put to him an condition, that he let his father accompany him for the 1st trip. They went to Belgium and this trip permitted him to learn quite a lot of things to do with travel. So the very next trip he took off totally on his own. 3 years ago he left home for South America with €20 and he came back with that intact in his pocket!

He also thinks his wheelchair is more of an advantage than a burden, as people immediately become friends, wanting to help him, listen to him and he has made many friends in all the countries he has been. HIs next trip is going to East Africa.

"How wonderful and simple is the world!" he says. photo z-Wheelchair0704_zps4e288585.jpg
