It's
indisputable the importance of the film 'Exorcist' in the moving
picture history, not just in Hollywood. It gave nobility to the genre, a
special category of artistic, even literary accomplishment up till
then, 40 years ago in 1973, not considered seriously nor attempted by
movie makers worrying about profits as priority always in the film
industry.
Hollywood had the good taste to nominate it in several categories for the Oscar; it won in best script and best sound effect. This film opened the doors to modern terror films, with gothic, gore, and all kinds of epic exorcism following suit. The 'Bad Seed', was premiered in Spain in 2009. Also some others, sequences of Friedkin's films. 'Exorcist' takes the supernatural theme very seriously. Although I am not normally addicted to horror films, I do appreciate a few quite outstanding ones and Exorcist amongst them. Having stars like Ellen Burstyn and Max von Sydow leading the cast no doubt has influenced me a little, Maybe more than a little in the beginning, but the film itself holds most part of the merit. I never saw it before but I am glad I did last night.on TV. How wonderful it is that Television sometimes compensate us with some real gems even though mostly we have to sort through amongst loads of rubbish to find them.
