The phase and craze of vampire culture seem to be enjoying a huge boom these days, manifested in several movies on the theme, comic books and various new novels, all together a visible revival of this ancient myth and literature. There are zombis, vampires, weir wolves, ghosts, Dracula, demons and monsters, beings from the beyond, with interlaced or forbidden relationships flourishing in dreamlike settings, entwined between reality and fantasy.

They are now marching out of their former hiding places, no longer lying in the dark coffin all day and surfaced only after dark. Neither the crucifix, nor the string of garlic, nor the sunlight can deter them. The modern day vampires have been appearing in the recent years in the subculture of the youth. They have left behind their condition of demons to become heroes, somewhat tragic but attractive, elegant, romantic, and eternal. The story of Bella and her beloved vampire Edward, far too handsome to die, was sort of a new version of Romeo and Juliet. They are glamorous and they never die. According to the American author Stephenie Meyer, "Only a vampire would love you forever!"

You only have to see the long queues all over Europe, to get autograph of Victoria Frances, the author of the graphic novels of beautiful vampires. To the extent that the German insurance companies announced that they wouldn't pay for any damages to the young people, caused by the new trend of having their teeth sharpened, or implants put in to appear more like the blood sucking vampires. Look at the huge success of the 4 books by Stephenie Meyer, and her 1st adaptation for a film 'Twilight' topping the box office record of all times here in Spain at the night of the premiere, including 'Harry Potter'. In the United States just in the first 4 days, it beat Coppola's 'Dracula' and 'Interview with the vampire' with 143 million dollars ticket sale, and the film cost merely 37 million to make.

TV series too as well as in cinemas, like Blood Tie, Moonlight, True Blood ... In this last the vampires live in human society, thanks to the synthetic blood invented by the Japanese. Their integration is not easy, like any religious subculture, sexuality, age. There is another film 'Circus of the freak' with William Dafoe and Salma Hayek, based on the novel 'The saga of Darren Shan'. Another adapted from a successful novel is 'Bubba Nosferatu: the curse of women vampires, with Paul Gianmatti and Ron Perlman, bringing Elvis who stumble into a group of beautiful vampires while shooing a film.

Tim Burton, king of Gothic, worked with Johnny Depp in 'Dark Shadows, life of Barnabas Collins, the vampire' The 3 remaining novels about vampires of Stephenie Meyer was to be adapted too so rumours goes ...
