I
came across this old Blog posted in 2009, had since then forgot all
about it. A friend of mine imitating Michael Jackson's Moonwalk today
had reminded me of the marathon moonwalk, backwards, by a group of MJ's
fans to honour him one month after his death.
Some
200 men had congregated at the Monument of Colon of Barcelona on
Sunday, to have their annual walk race, backwards, from the most centric
and confluent Rambla, to reach the Plaza Catalunya, at the rhythm of
the Moonwalk popularised by Michael Jackson. The participants this year wanted to pay homage to the King of Pop at a month since his death.
The
information given out by the local police says that, of the 200
participants taking part, all wearing something identifying them as
their idol, the single white glove for instance, only 50 had completed
the backward walk to arrive at the Plaza Catalunya. Many reckoned that
walking backwards for a fair distance was not as easy as they thought,
trying to do it with Moonwalk steps and other imitations made it doubly
difficult. But the message rendered was clear; they all wished to
remember and honour the King.
