New
York celebrated it's 400th anniversary on September the 9th in 2009,
with a journey by boat through the Hudson River, to the discovery of the
city. In a replica of the ship 'Half Moon', used by the explorer Henry
Hudson in his travel in December of 1609, taking the same route that led
to the discovery of the Dutch colony New Amsterdam. It was only later that the name had been changed to New York.
That New York is 404 years old, everybody knows. But I never knew it was called something else, nor whom by, nor the how re. the journey itself.
It doesn't say much about the standard of my knowledge in history, does it? I do now, never too late.
