We
all treasure freedom. Yet freedom means quite different things to
different people. The principle and common point being that we are free
to do things our way aiming to achieve things or conditions that we
desire most.
Years
ago, I made acquaintance, purely by chance, with a young lady, very
pretty, exceptionally intelligent. I enjoyed talking with her because
she always has something interesting to say, not the kind of empty talk
many women indulge in, constantly talking about shopping, fashion,
boyfriends or husbands, washing machines and diapers. Then one day I
was shocked when she told me she was a called-girl. 'The difference
between call-girl and prostitute is only in the price' she added with a
little giggle.
I said 'shocked' because I knew already that she was an university
graduate
in economy and law, surely she could have many doors opened to her,
more prestigious and respectable, with good advancement and bright
future. She explained to me in a matter-of-fact way that she sees
nothing at all wrong with her 'job' as she earned extremely good money,
and she thoroughly enjoyed the sex and all it's multidimensional
aspects. Very unusual outlook and career choice I thought at the time. I
moved from one country to another several times since then and we lost
touch. I wonder how she is doing now?
For
me, to be free is not to stay put in the past, however wonderful, or
bad, it was; not overly dwelling, worrying or planning the future; not
let my mind be occupied by more than my own thoughts and opinions re.
what or how I should or should not do with my life, not those of
others, praise or criticism. Be confident that mistakes are lessons to
be learned from, and emotional wounds can heal with time.
