It's
been said that 'There's no worse blind man that the one who doesn't
want to see'. The recent media alerted that Spain is the country in the
United Europe with the widest gap in the social class between the
rich and the poor.
The
world economic crisis, and the disastrous local management of it's
consequences, has contributed to worsening and amplifying the already
existed gap. The social exclusion is now not just a threat but a
certainty, resulting directly in the fracture of the social cohesion.
The rich will get richer and the poor poorer. The minority profits but
the majority suffers. No healthy country can sustain that and stay
healthy long.
But
the information and statistics have less impact than the raw fact. The
image captured by a well know photo-journalist published a couple of
days ago, on the front page of the principal local paper, showing the
magnificent Jean Nouvel Tower in the technological district of
Barcelona, baptised as '22@'.
And, in it's huge shadow, the old section, miserable and shattering,
where thousands of people living in abject, shameful shanty shacks, in
the back streets and abandoned rooftops. The famous luxury hotel where
one has to pay 7,000 € per night. The poor thousands there don't even
dare to dream of such a figure.
