13th April 2012 Two Virgins

April 13B
Unfinished Music No.1: Two Virgins ~   2 Virgins Cover
It is an album released by John Lennon & Yoko Ono in 1968. An experimentation and John and Yoko's début album, known not only for it's Avant Garde content, also for it's cover above. The title refers to the couple's feeling that they were 'two innocents lost in a world gone mad', and because after making the recording the two consummated their relationship.

The very old and rough prints below were obviously taken at the same session, more like testing snapshots including the back view of the same photo. These 2 photos were auctioned yesterday in Dorchester, England, but they didn't reached the scandalously high figured as expected, sold for merely £860 (some €1,040). The author of 'Image' described them as 'Photos of 2 somewhat overweight ex junkies, found by surprise in the attic of a house' without further ado.

That to me is unnecessarily degrading. They are indeed very ordinary photos with hardly artistic value, had it not been that of the problematic and near mythical couple and stark naked. I am already quite surprised they did fetched near a thousand Euro. However, what I see is not just the photos of these two world known figures, each with his/her own well deserved merit in art and music and, I dare add, unmatchable charisma and daring to be what they truly were, and had the courage to express exactly what they felt and wanted.

I also imagine the long line of people over a long period of decades, each had his/her own reason to say, do, express and execute their ideals, led by the 2 challenging lovers. Their own reason for the photos was clearly & publicly declared. What about those who practically worshipped them and collected whatever remnants of theirs belongs however small or trivial? What's their reason? Who is the person who hid these photos in his/her attic for several decades? Why? And, the person who found them but wanted money instead, what made him/her think they could fetch a colossal price? Who is the person who just paid a high enough price for them, what's his reason? To keep for ever? To wait longer for higher price to resell? A fan? A collector?

And why is there no detail in the news about this find and the consequence, when at one time, if one of them had a normal headache, that alone would make news half way round the world?
