The
anxious question of whether size matters or not only worried the
scientists in this case, who tried to help a couple of enormous size
difference: he, Guntur, weighs 45 kilos and she, Asmara, only 25 kilos.
It's
the first time, ever, the scientists tried to assist a successful
coition, the coupling of the two and hoping for a fruitful
reproduction. The victim in this is Ombak, deselected as lover for
Asmara because of his gigantic size and ferocious appearance. I am
talking about 2 Komodo Dragons (largest lizard native of Indonesia).
What had YOU been thinking?
These
creatures usually have great difficulty producing when kept outside of
their natural habitat. AsThe team of scientist and veterinarians of the
Barcelona Zoo started by putting the two dragons together for one
night, keeping a very watchful eye in case there's violence instead of
acceptance.
The night
passed peacefully, at one time Guntur even embraced Asmara with one paw;
but there was no sex act. (maybe like us, they didn't want audience in
their intimate moments?) At least there's no fear of violence.
Not sure what they did eventually, but apparently the direct assistance was possible yesterday and
now they are keeping their fingers, toes and paws crossed for the
patient wait of 9 months, just like people, for the arrival of tiny
dragons.
