Death Wish?

Oct 13
Talk about the amazing abundance of pure rubbish on the net, what I found could easily win the prize for the most typical of all absurdities. There's now a Website: whenisbritneygoingtodie.com

The name of the site tells exactly what it's all about. You enter, give you identity, and you predict when the problematical pop singer Britney Spears is going to die. You are supposed to predict the year, the month, the date and the hour when her demise might take place. You are even invited to write a pre-condolence to show respect. Respect??? The grand prize for the winner who predicts everything right will be awarded a PLayStation 3. I didn't stay on to find out whether there are runners-up prizes or not. My stomach couldn't stand being on that page any longer.

The Welcome page text is plain and unadorned. It started off by saying that we all have a date with our Creator, sooner or later, but Britney seems to be in a hurry. Then it gives a brief account of how the singer started off being a nobody, became soon later the dream of every male and envy of all hopefuls of being a huge name in the pop world, and her recent self destructive behaviour. Sort of a mini biography.

Such an initiative, if one can call it that, gives clues to the mentality, educational, cultural and social, not only of today's web public, but those they aim at, the voters, the totally morbid and immoral mind of certain type of people. An insult to humanity and it's intelligence. As if her life depends on how long God will keep her, or not, according to public votes.

To those of you who can't wait for Britney to die on that specific date, no doubt fixed to be the soonest possible so that you can get your grand prize, there's just one question I wish to ask: Is that PlayStation that important to you, more than the basic human decency?

Before some of you might want to attack me for speaking out my mind, I want to remind you that everyone has the right to do what he wishes, and I am one of the 'Everyone' group, merely exercising my right of freedom of speech.
