It
lacks the gritty elements and rugged, breathtaking scenery of the wild
west, but the pure magic remains in the new stage play, based on a
popular comic strip serial, 'Calpunio', with 'Cuttlas' the famous
'pistolero' the gunman. It's on in the Theatre Raval in Barcelona.
You wouldn't see Clint Eastwood or any of the other legendary Hollywood cowboys in this play. Cuttlas is not even fresh and blood but special puppets, not on the strings, nor made of rags with a head of cement or wood, but some pliable wire-ropes that 'draws' out the silhouettes of the many characters, 'acting' out all the actions and emotions. Yes emotions. More than that, love, as it's basically a love story.
The story line braids around the love of Cuttlas and his eternal beloved Mabel. Not leaving out, of course, the baddy Jack, and the pensive Juan Bala, (at least when he is awake in the shade under a tree with his Mexican hat) The adventure develops and terminates in the uproaring shindig of a rave Cherokee organized by the DJ Jeronimo. Apart from the electronic rhythm there's also direct live music, with sounds between ragtime and primitive jazz, with flavour of the so called spaghetti western.
To say that the play has no actors is not really correct. They are there, and famous ones too, who have to learn their lines as always, but they act and talk behind the scenes, together with a large team of technicians just like any other major theater production.
In the imagination of comics, anything is possible. I got the imagination to match too and I love comics in their many & varied forms.
