16th May 2012 Eurovision Song Contest - With A Difference

May 16B
When today's singers are all expected to be young, beautiful and sexy, whether they can sing as well is almost of secondary importance, Russia is letting a group of grandmas from the small village of Buranovo, to represent the country to enter the annual Eurovison Song Contest Festival which takes place from the 22nd of May this year.

The group is simply called 'The Grandmas of Burannovo'. the oldest member is Natalia Pugachova who is shortly to complete 77 years. The song is called 'Party for everyone', with the text in the local dialect, written by themselves and with translation into English by Mary Susan Applegate, who had worked with the Australian star Kylie Minogue.

One of the group members, Olga Tuktareva who is also the artistic director of the group, stressed that 'We are not clowns. We sing with sincerity about what's important to the people. We do not seek fame or riches, with our only objective of getting some money to build an orthodox church in our village.'

Three Cheers to the high-spirited old girls, and to their father country which values and supports their true talent and worth.
